I am setting up a new website and I need some advice. I am looking to get a high google ranking and have read that backlinks are a very effective way of doing this. Does anyone know where i can get good quality links. or any other ways I can promote my new site, on a tight budget of course.

Answer by zulfnore The link in the source box (leonardwood.com) has a free report that tells you all about SEO and how to go about it. Also remember great and unique content is the siphon of free traffic which in turn ranks you higher with google.
As for back links you need to join forums where you are allowed to post your link in the signature box, comment on others blogs leaving your link. You are welcome to do so on my site (affiliatescorner.com) where you can add your link on the links page plus the links directory.

These are the basic methods you can use for your SEO efforts but are not the complete list, a quick search on the net will return plenty more places you can obtain back links. But the best back links are the one way links where a webmaster of another site links to yours without you having to reciprocate.

I own a chocolate fountain rental business and have had a really busy year thanks to Google and a very high page ranking.
If you typed in….chocolate fountain, we were on the second page. Not bad for a fairly new business, we thought. Especially considering how many companies are in the UK.
However, the website had to be moved at the end of the summer to a new server and we immediately lost our page ranking overnight. This has been quite disastrous for our business, as most people will just use that particular phrase when searching.
If you type in….chocolate fountain hire (a phrase not used by many people) into Google we are on the first page, half way down and described as..The UK’s most competitive chocolate fountain hire service.
My webmaster altered a couple of things to try to improve our position, but no luck as yet.
My question is…is it worth paying out to a company to help with SEO?
Been quoted from £2000 upwards, but they apparantely can’t gaurantee anything.

I think it is a shame that he is taking this action. He has had a distinguished career and is now embarrassing himself.
His Wikipedia page shows that he was welcomed into the UK in 1974, provided with good education and opportunities in the police.
If there was discrimination in the police, he would never have been given the job in the first place and certainly wouldn’t have been able to consistently rise through the ranks during his career.
